A home is occupied during any stay you record, including both the start and end dates, and unoccupied otherwise. Status updates automatically in your workspace's timezone, and the property record always shows the current status and the next transition date.

If the home is now empty, NestWatch creates a high-priority task, due that day, so you confirm the home's visit coverage. If another stay begins immediately, no task fires because the home never actually went unoccupied. Each stay has its own reminder toggle if you want to skip the nudge.

Will NestWatch remind me before an owner returns?

Yes. About a week before a recorded return, NestWatch creates a task to schedule the pre-arrival visit, due the day before the owners arrive, so the home is checked and ready when they walk in.

Can I schedule a visit while the owner is home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Scheduling a visit on an occupied date shows a heads-up so you know before you drive out, but nothing is blocked. Some owners want visits while they are in residence.

Does occupancy change my recurring schedules?

By default, no. Occupancy informs your planning without touching your schedules. Skip visits while occupied is an opt-in toggle you turn on per schedule, or inherit automatically from a property-level default.

What does 'skip while occupied' actually do?

Accepted Answer

When Skip visits while occupied is on, visit generation pauses for the duration of any recorded stay. Existing scheduled visits are not touched or deleted — only new visits that would otherwise be queued during the occupied period are held back. Once the home is unoccupied again, the schedule resumes and the next visit generates as normal. Skipped periods appear as markers on the calendar so you can see the gap, but they do not count as coverage for the coverage-gap alert.

How does the property-level default for skip-while-occupied work?

Open the property record and set Skip visits while occupied as the default for that property. Every recurring schedule on the property inherits the setting automatically, so you don't have to flip the toggle on each one individually. You can still override it per schedule — for example, a security-check cadence you want to keep running regardless of occupancy — without changing the default or affecting the other schedules.
